FIFA, the governing body for international soccer, continues to redefine the future of sports. It has recently marked a significant milestone in its digital journey by filing nine additional trademark applications under its ‘WE ARE’ campaign. This major move has cemented FIFA’s growing foothold in the metaverse, bridging the gap between virtual reality and the physical world.

“The game has changed, and it’s more than just a pitch and a ball now.”

FIFA Metaverse Expansion: What’s on the Horizon?

As part of the ‘WE ARE’ campaign, FIFA’s new trademarks hint at a plethora of offerings extending beyond the traditional boundaries of the game. They encompass the domains of personal training services, virtual sportswear, and entertainment services such as laser shows, live audio-visual performances, and even sporting event-related spectacles.

But it’s not just about the spectacle. It’s about connecting with the fans and providing them with innovative ways to experience the sport. “Our goal is to immerse fans in the event digitally, to provide them with a unique, interactive experience that transcends the limitations of physical reality,” a FIFA spokesperson shared.

Reliving the Past: FIFA Metaverse Initiatives

This is not FIFA’s maiden voyage into the metaverse. FIFA has previously made waves by creating a virtual replica of the Lusail Stadium in Qatar for the World Cup. This allowed fans to immerse themselves in the event without stepping foot in Qatar.

Moreover, partnerships with luxury Swiss watchmaker Hublot and metaverse platform Upland gave birth to exclusive virtual experiences and digital assets tied to the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Not to mention the launch of exciting new casual games and an immersive fan engagement app named Phygtlis.

Embracing NFTs: FIFA Future Endeavors

FIFA’s metaverse ambitions also extend into the realm of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). In partnership with Algorand’s blockchain technology, they launched “FIFA+ Collect”, solidifying their commitment to digital innovation.

The Future for FIFA & The Metaverse

FIFA’s exploration and growth in the metaverse indicate the future of sports – it’s digital, it’s immersive, and it’s here to stay. With new trademarks hinting at advancements in virtual reality gaming, virtual sportswear, and more, FIFA fans and tech enthusiasts alike have much to look forward to.
